Fractional & on-call HR

An experienced HR partner, without the full-time hire.

Get the judgment of a seasoned HR professional on your side, someone you can call before you make a people decision, not after it goes sideways.

Is this you?

You’ve outgrown doing HR on the side.

Maybe your office manager has been handling HR along with everything else. Maybe the owner is still the one making every call. Either way, the business has grown and the questions are getting harder.

  • You don’t have an internal HR person
  • Managers keep coming to you with employee issues
  • You want someone to check your thinking before a hard decision
  • You know you need structure but don’t know where to start
  • You’re not ready for a full-time HR salary
What’s included

Your HR department, on call.

Support flexes with what’s happening in your business. Some months it’s a quick question; other months it’s a termination, a complaint and a new policy all at once.

  • Manager guidance, in the moment
  • Compliance questions
  • Documentation review
  • Performance management & discipline
  • Terminations, handled carefully

Common questions

What is fractional HR?

Fractional HR means working with an experienced HR professional part-time, on an ongoing basis, instead of hiring a full-time HR manager. You get senior-level guidance when you need it, at a fraction of the cost of a full-time salary and benefits.

How is fractional HR different from a PEO?

A PEO typically co-employs your staff and bundles payroll, benefits and HR administration. Fractional HR doesn’t change who employs your people. Ethos works alongside your existing payroll and team and focuses on guidance, compliance, managers and systems built for your business.

When does a small business need HR help?

Often somewhere between 5 and 70 employees: when you’re hiring regularly, managers are handling performance issues, you have employees in more than one state, or the owner or office manager is spending too much time on people problems.

Do you work with businesses outside Kansas City?

Yes. Ethos is based in the Kansas City area and supports clients remotely across the country, with state-specific requirements in mind.

Let’s talk

Here’s what happened. What do we do?

That’s exactly the call we want to get, ideally before the decision is made. Tell us what’s going on and we’ll help you figure out the next right step.
